GRADE – II

 

  Dear parents,
We have successfully completed the first unit of inquiry with your support. The students have understood that they need to develop friendly relationships with people through good interactions which in turn would develop a good community around them.
We are now going to begin our second unit of inquiry.  Below is a brief insight into what your child will be inquiring into:

TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEME:(An inquiry into orientation in place and time; personal histories; homes and journeys; the discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind; the relationships between and the interconnectedness of  individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives.)
Where We Are in Place and Time !

CENTRAL IDEA:  (The main idea behind our inquiry)
Homes are made for protection and for survival in different climates.

LINES OF INQUIRY (What we will try and find out about):

The students inquire into:

    1. Parts of  a home that protect birds, animals and human beings.
    2. Homes that protect us in different climates.

KEY CONCEPTS:

(What do we want students to understand?)

  1.  Function (How does it work): students understand that everything has a purpose and that a home is made to protect oneself.
  2. Causation (Why is it like it is): students realize that the houses are different in different places because of the different types of climates.

Skills: (What do we want students to be able to do?)

  1. Research skills (observation): Students develop  research skills through observation using all the senses to notice relevant details.
  2. Thinking skills (analysis): Students improve their thinking skills by analysing the information collected through their research.

Attitudes: (What do we want students to feel, value and demonstrate?)

Attributes of the learner profile: (What we are trying to understand and become)

  1. Inquirers: As inquirers the students show genuine enthusiasm for learning about houses, homes and places
  2. Knowledgeable : Students become knowledgeable by finding out various facts on houses and climates.

Subject integration:
Math – Shapes and patterns
Social Studies – Houses in different types of climates
English – Vocabulary
Art – Drawing migratory birds, their names and places they migrate from.
